By Skin Cancer Institute |June 22, 2022

In this latest podcast, Prof David Wilkinson (Chief Medical Officer of National Skin Cancer Centres) speaks with Dr Yevgeny (Gene) Filanovsky (a Family Physician with Cutaneous Surgery and Skin Cancer Focus at Skin Care West, Canada) about how he uses imiquimod in his practice for the treatment of BCC.

Dr Filanovsky describes his work in cutaneous surgery at Skin Care West in Canada which utilises a team-based approach combining dermatologists and family physicians. This model is developing popularity in Australia too, due to a shortage of dermatologists and a high prevalence of skin cancer.

Dr Filanovsky goes on to give a detailed explanation of how he uses the topical field treatment imiquimod in his practice, especially for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

He also speaks about the surgical options for treating BCCs, including excision guidelines and when the use of topical therapies is appropriate instead of surgical intervention.

Dr Filanovsky discusses the sites, lesion types and patient groups for which he recommends imiquimod.
