New Zealand has one of the highest incidences of skin cancer in the world. Kiwis have a one in 15 chance of developing melanoma in their lifetime and 300 of those die from melanoma each year. In order to raise awareness of the seriousness of melanoma and the importance of early detection, Melanoma New Zealand introduced the Melanoma New Zealand Parliament Skin Check Day.

Members of Parliament from across the House received a free skin check in an event the first of its kind in New Zealand. Linda Flay, CEO of Melanoma New Zealand, explained that the main purpose of the Melanoma New Zealand Parliament Skin Check Day was to educate the community and raise awareness about the importance of regular skin checks. MPs representing communities from around New Zealand have joined the organisation to get this message out.
