In this month's skin cancer update video, Professor Giuseppe Argenziano discusses the findings of a recent paper detailing a rapid increase in the diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma.
While the incidence of melanoma is rising, the mortality rate has stayed much the same. Giuseppe discusses some of the reasons for the increase in melanoma diagnoses, including the theory that the increase is not due to rising UV exposure, but rather due to better diagnostic scrutiny.
So why are we getting better at diagnosing skin cancers, and are we over-diagnosing?
